This man deserves a medal!

A plane pilot recently hatched a cunning plan to disable an armed hijacker who tried to take control of his aircraft, in order to seek political asylum. Even the flight crew and passengers got in on the act, when the pilot cunningly told them what he was going to do. Read the full story here! UK Smoking Ban: 1st July 2007!

---------------- Now playing: Sheryl Crow - If It Makes You Happy via FoxyTunes
So the government have finally set a date for the UK smoking ban; July 1st 2007! This means no more pubs/gigs full of people smoking. No more choking, and no more stinging eyes. No more going home with clothes and hair stinking of other people's smoke. Hooray! Once it's operational, I shall be adding the 'shop a smoker' hotline number to my phone so I can report smokers / venues breaking the new law. "Respect mah authority!" A little help from my friends...

I'm in need of help! Danesmore Park, the school which Jordan (my girlfriend Steph's son) attends is facing possible closure and the fight has begun to try and keep the school open. Steph has thrown herself into battle and is fighting the cause with an amazing amount of vigour and dedication, and I'm helping out in whatever way I can, making cups of tea and using my t'internet skills! So - I am calling on anyone reading this to help us. Please click here and sign the online petition we have set up. It doesn't matter if you're not local, or even know where the school is - anyone who has an interest in seeing schools stay open should sign to show their support. You can also add Danesmore Park to your friends on myspace and make it one of your 'top' friends to help spread the word. Any help you can give would be REALLY appreciated by both myself, Steph, Jordan and everyone else involved. Thanks! Domesday Book Online

I just read a really intetresting article on BBC News about how the Domesday Book is now available in full online. It amazes me that such an important piece of British history is now available in full for the entire world to see. You can search for villages and towns and then pay to download the information found. I searched for the 'village' I live in (it's more like a small town) and it came up with a result, so I may well pay the £3.50 just so I can have a look at the information contained. Apparently the entire book (there's actually 2) has been photographed in high-quality and translated from the original latin - a project that began 25 years ago! One thing that struck me as very interesting is that it took 25 years to make it available online using modern techniques, yet it was written by one poor scribe in just over a year. Whatsmore (I think I just made that word up?) he remains nameless!  No one knows the name of the person who physically wrote what is probably *the* most important document in British history! Greenpeace Protesters use Moblog UK in Protest!

At 6am this morning 14 Greenpeace protesters climbed on top of the Admirality Arch in London forcing the closure of The Mall. The protesters then hung a huge banner accusing Tony Blair of 'trashing another rainforest'. Greenpeace are protesting at the government's use of illegally logged timber for the renovation of the cabinet office. Read more at BBC News here. In addition to this - I awoke this morning to find the Greenpeace protesters have set up a moblog at www.moblog.co.uk and have been posting photos and video footage live from their rooftop protest! What a great way to use moblogging technology! The image above is one of those taken by the protesters. To see more click here, and to watch a video (shot on a mobile phone) of Stephen Tindale, Greenpeace Executive Director explaining why they're protesting today, click here!
