GoodBooks – ‘Turn It Back’ free download!

GoodBooks are my most recent clients, I’ve been working with the band since April this year. A friend manages them and kinda discovered them. They’re recently signed to Columbia Records in the UK after having released a couple of indie singles and had a whole shit load of ‘buzz’ surround them. NME tipped them as ‘ones to watch’ for 2006 and Zane Lowe just played their new single on Radio One about an hour ago. Get in!

The ‘Books are currently recording their debut album and have decided to release a free download single to tide people over until they release their debut-single-proper, somewhere around October. They’re playing at Reading & Leeds Festival so are hoping they’ll pick up some new fans along the way who can get their hands on the free single!

The result of a couple of hard days work is that we launched the download single tonight. You can get it FREE here, complete with artwork and lyrics. It’s a great tune (as are all of theirs) and you should check it out, even if only because it’s free! You can hear more music at www.myspace.com/goodbooks and find out more at the official (maintained by me) website www.ilovegoodbooks.com

And if anyone local fancies going to see them, I’m going to the Jug Of Ale in Brum on Friday 25th of August – let me know if you’re interested!

Street Band!

I caught this funky little street band playing New Orleans Jazz in Walsall on Saturday – they were great despite being pestered by some little kid!

Domesday Book Online

Posted on Friday, August 4, 2006 in News, World Affairs

domesdaybook

I just read a really intetresting article on BBC News about how the Domesday Book is now available in full online. It amazes me that such an important piece of British history is now available in full for the entire world to see. You can search for villages and towns and then pay to download the information found. I searched for the ‘village’ I live in (it’s more like a small town) and it came up with a result, so I may well pay the £3.50 just so I can have a look at the information contained.

Apparently the entire book (there’s actually 2) has been photographed in high-quality and translated from the original latin – a project that began 25 years ago! One thing that struck me as very interesting is that it took 25 years to make it available online using modern techniques, yet it was written by one poor scribe in just over a year. Whatsmore (I think I just made that word up?) he remains nameless!  No one knows the name of the person who physically wrote what is probably *the* most important document in British history!

New Phone!

n80

I have a new phone! A shiny new Nokia N80! It has a 3 megapixel camera and wireless internet built in, amongst many other things! This has made the geek in me very happy! Now all I need to do is find some unsecured wi-fi spots to abuse!
