Top Weekend!

I couldn’t decide which Whale photo to use, as they were both pretty amazing so seeing as I’m doing two posts I used both!
I had a super good/busy weekend! Friday night was spent planning activities for Steve’s Stag Do that we’re all off to in Edinburgh toward the end of March (watch out Scotland!). We came up with some cool ideas, although the one everyone liked best was bring old 5-a-side football, but I’m sure it’ll be a laugh! We’re going to a Whiskey factory too I think, mmm! It looks like the girls are going to Glasgow the same weekend too, so Scotland has got a lot in store for it! Steph and I were trying to come up with some kind of plot to strand Steve & Catherine together in the middle of nowhere in Scotland!
On Saturday I spent the day in Nottingham with Kelly. We mooched around shops, she bought stuff, I didn’t. I could have bought loads of cheap CDs, but I have issues with buying old stuff that I don’t *really* need at the moment, for some reason! After shopping we went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Notts, which I’ve never been to before - it’s ace! Loads of really cool memorabilia, including a Pearl Jam guitar and one of Jeff Ament’s basketball vests with the PJ logo on - very cool! Not only this but they were playing all kinds of Hard Rock Cafe live events on the TV in there and they showed Third Eye Blind playing ‘Deep Inside Of You’ live - which was brilliant, probably the only play they’ll get on a TV in the UK this year, so I was chuffed about that! And to top it all of the food was lovely! We both had some kind of Macaroni Cheese Pasta dish with Chicken, it was huge and tasted lovely - good suggestion Kelly ;-)
After eating, we walked, drank coffee (although those goons at Starbucks had run out of Vanilla syrup!) and eventually stumbled upon the Pitcher & Piano - which is a bar in a converted Unitarian Church! It’s absolutely amazing and I was gutted when we realised as we walking in that we didn’t really have time for a drink because we had to catch our trains. It was like a dream, lots of dim lighting, candles on tables, a raise dining area in the middles, and a huge balcony with seats and tables reachable by the two spiral staircases in the far corners. Well worth a visit if you’re ever in Nottingham - I’m going back, that’s for sure!
After saying our goodbyes and Kelly trying to kidnap me on her Lincoln train, I headed back to Birmingham, then Walsall, then to the pub where everyone was talking about the Whale amongst many other things - the usual bizarre drunken Animal facts came out and Stu was in his element! After a couple of cheeky Whiskeys at Mike and Nicky’s (it’s their own fault for buying a house 10 doors away from a pub!) it was home time.
Sunday I got up and eventually got out of the house after what seemed like hours of faffing. Met up with the lovely Steph in Wolverhampton, sunk a quick Coffee at The Varsity (99p and you get a Twirl too!) and headed back to Jennings HQ. The rest of Sunday was spent sorting out Steph’s media player library (what a mess!), sharing music (we owned it all!), eating pie, drinking coffee, talking loads, playing 24 top trumps and the almighty ‘Buzz’ music quiz on the Playstation! Buzz is the ideal game for music geeks such as myself (and most of my friends), so I was in my element competing against the walking lyric-singing machine that is Steph. We ended up going to sleep at silly o’clock despite having to get up early for when Jordan (Steph’s son) arrived home from his Dad’s. I felt pretty wiped out the next morning, but soon woke up when the little Hurricane came home - although he was most perturbed to find me asleep on the sofa as he ran over in the dark!
I hung around for a few hours while Steph tried to fight her on-coming cold, we played some more Buzz (addicts) and I met Steph’s Mom who was very nice and ripped Steph like Steph rips other people ;-)
All in all a brilliant weekend. I managed to see nearly all of my favourite people in the space of 48 hours, which seldom happens and the weekend seemed to last for ages! Who says time flies when you’re having fun? ;-)

argh, P&P. we do their website (the new one that hasn’t been launched yet is sexy), and we also do the godawful site for their parent company, pathfinder pubs. it’s one of my sites, sadly.
you should write to the manager - Alistair Walsh - pandpnottingham@pitcherandpiano.com and say nice things. we get sent the regional memos and they have a ‘comment of the week’ and stuff, so they do actually read them, heh.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
