My Saturday

Posted on Sunday, November 20, 2005 in Me

Yesterday I spent the day out on a family outing. Doesn’t happen very often, but it was fun. My Brother was doing an extreme driving day at a race course near Loughborough. He got to drive a Porsche and suped-up Mini Cooper around a race track, as well as being driven round as a passenger by some speed-demon and later on he got to drive a bus….with us all on it!

I’m sure if I was a car enthusiast or a boy racer I would have enjoyed it even more – one of the highlights was some clever dick going too fast and spinning a Ferrari off the track (he was ok)….but it was nice enough just being out in the middle of nowhere. It was FREEZING cold once the sun disappeared, but the fog and sunset were amazing and I took some cool photos, which I posted HERE on my moblog. I also got a few cool silhouette shots of trees as well, with the sun blazing behind them.

A nice day out in the countryside (despite the noisey cars), finished off with Pizza Hut and then latest a few chapters of The Da Vinci Code.

Off to London tomorrow for Immi’s gig, should be fun….

I Wanna Stay Inside.

Posted on Saturday, November 19, 2005 in Me

I don’t really. But I realised this evening when putting on my shoes to go and buy Fish & Chips that today is Friday. I had not put my shoes on (and therefore not left the house) since last Saturday.

Somehow I’ve spent the last week as a recluse, yet I’ve spent the whole week with people! I can’t remember the last time I didn’t leave the house for this long, and I thanks the gods of technology for giving me the means to stay in touch with the outside world, as well as those in the house.

I am not a recluse, nor a hermit, I’m just experiencing a cash flow problem and luckily work from home…and while this is not fun (the cash flow) I do have a certain sense of pride that firstly I managed to not leave the house for 6 days without going insane, and secondly have not spent a penny in 6 days. Althought it’s not something I wish to do again in a hurry.

I have worked my ass off this week, so this would possibly explain why I didn’t really miss the outside world…I was preoccupied. I also spent the week before last out every night for 6 nights, so this week has restored balance to my life I think.

Tomorrow I’m going out – and I hope the cold winter air will fill my lungs to make up for the past 6 days.

U2 Live

Posted on Thursday, November 17, 2005 in Me, Music, Reviews

I just caught a few songs of ‘U2 Live in Chicago’ which was just broadcast on Channel 4. The whole thing is coming out on DVD soon (may even be out now) and it’s DEFINITELY going on my Christmas list. I have the last two U2 DVDs and I REALLY want this one.

U2 concerts are like religious experiences. I don’t think any person, no matter whether they like U2 particularly or not could go and see this band live, or even watch a DVD of this band live and not feel moved by it. It’s hard to explain in words, it’s just something that anyone who has been to a U2 show will KNOW and I hope someone who has only seen them on TV will understand as well. That feeling of euphoria. Being a part of something so big and yet so special and in a strange way something so personal.

I guess that’s why the DVDs are so good if you have been to the show – it stirs up all the feelings and emotions that you felt on that day, the memories, the people you were with, the songs, the high-lights…the whole event. U2 shows are such an audible and visual overload, a sensory overload that it’s hard to take it all in. That’s why having a document of this will be so great – you know there’ll be loads of things you missed that you will now discover, as well as all those moments that will trigger your memories and feelings.

Another thing that always amazes me if how real they are. When they tour the world they will no doubt play well over 100 shows per year. Meaning on average they probably play a show every three nights for a year, and yet whenever you seem them live (in the flesh or on TV) each show is so special. I’ve felt that they were just going through the motions as so many bands at a similar level inevitably do when playing so many shows. U2 mean every single word and every single note, every single night. And that’s one of the things that makes them so special. There’s no one else like them.

Watch Out Trading Standards!

Posted on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 in Humour, News

This story is absolutely hilarious! Sounds like your normal ’spammer who got caught’ until the end, where this chap obviously lost the plot completely!

Spammer convicted of £1.6m scam

An internet spammer who used the online nickname “weaselboy” has been convicted of running a £1.6m email scam from a bedroom in his father’s house.

Peter Francis-Macrae was found guilty of threatening to kill and blackmail by jurors at Peterborough Crown Court.

The 23-year-old was also convicted of threatening to destroy or damage property, concealing criminal property and fraudulent trading.

The court heard he ran the scam from a bedroom in St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Francis-Macrae, who denied all the charges, was said to have offered thousands of email and website names that he was not registered to sell.

When victims complained, he threatened to destroy their internet systems by sending millions of spam emails.

He also threatened to fire-bomb the headquarters of the county’s trading standards department and petrol-bomb his local police headquarters.

The old ‘fire-bomb trading standards and petrol-bomb your local Police station’ trick obviously didn’t put the authorities off!

Fuck ebay. Fuck paypal. Fuck touts.

Posted on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 in Me, Rant.

I’m not going to explain in detail as I will just get worked up and want to kills things/people.

All I would say is; Don’t ever buy anything on ebay using paypal thinking that they offer you sufficient protection, should the seller screw you over. They don’t. They offer you fuck all protection in reality because all they’re interested in is profit margins, not one insignificant customer.

Oh and dont’ bother trying to report ‘minor crimes’ such as fraud via your local Police Forces’ website as you’ll just be bombarded with banner ads to report ‘race hate’ crimes.

Fuck the man.
