Healthy In Paranoid Times.
The events that are currently happening in London are…so weird, it doesn’t seem real. Turning the TV on to hear stories of terrorists being gunned down in front of passengers on tube trains, armed Police surrounding hospitals, houses, mosques…everyone being on tenterhooks moving around a city that is being swept by rumours from people wondering what the hell is going to happen next. It’s like watching an episode of ‘24′, I keep expecting Jack Bauer to run across the screen at any moment.
Although I’m 125+ miles away here in Birmingham it still seems very close to home. Today there was a massive terrorist attack in Egypt….with it would seem, many more casualties and deaths than in London in recent weeks, but Egypt still seems such a long way a way…a far off land, so it’s doesn’t feel quite the same.
I think it’s important that people here, those in London and around the country don’t get scared into changing their daily lives and routines, that is very important….however I’m sure we’re all guilty of it to a certain degree. I’m fortunate in that I don’t have to commute to/from a big city to get to my place of work (I just roll out of bed and there I am!), and I’m fortunate in that most of my friends and family don’t work in the centre of Birmingham, so they’re relatively safe. I’ve not been into Birmingham since the first London bombing, or Birmingham itself was evacuated due to a ‘terror threat’…..I don’t go in that often anyway, and rarely travel during rush hour, so again I’m statistically pretty safe. But I probably would find it hard it I live and worked in London right now and had to commute during peak rush hour times. I don’t know how I’d rationalise it all in my head. I guess I’m lucky and my thoughts are with those who do have to go through what seems like an ever increasing gauntlet every day.
The most important thing is that however dire the situation is, the majority will not let these people change their way of life. I think as a country and London as a city full of us, the British people want to just get on with their lives.
I stole the title of thise post from Our Lady Peace’s upcoming new album, seemed apt.

The room I am sitting in resembles Amazon.com’s dispatch warehouse. Only smaller. Yes, the great Imogen Heap CD dispatch machine is still going! No matter how many CDs we stuff into jiffy bags, labels we stick to jiffys, and complete orders we box up….more orders keep coming in via email! This is of course a bittersweet thing. On one had it’s GREAT that Immi is selling so many CDs and yes, she is paying me well for doing this. However on the other…the monotony can get a little depressing after a while! Going into auto-pilot is not an option, incase you put a package going to one postal zone in the wrong box, this could cause catasrophic results! We seem to have a fairly good system up and running now, but however good your system, there’s always the select few who are too dumb to even follow that system. I’m refusing to answer dumb emails. Sigh.
Had a good band meeting this evening, very laid back, but we’ve got some great ideas and made some plans. Stay tuned!
I spotted an amusing story posted on the blog of someone who’s a member of Moblog UK today, as I said – I found it pretty amusing and you can read it here!
There was another ’story’ I heard via the internet last night about someone I know that I didn’t find so amusing….in fact it really fucked me off. It would appear now that it was all a mistake (or at least that’s what the person telling said ’story’…read: rumour, is trying to make out, possibly to cover their back), so I guess it’s best just left alone.
Today I have mostly been listening to The Police and Arcade Fire…both of whom are VERY different and VERY good! Arcade Fire apparently just bought a church in their hometown in Canada to record their next album in. Sounds like a cool idea!
This blog is beginning to take shape – there’s still some things I need to fix/edit/add etc. but I’m going to have to do it when I have more time on my hands, tomorrow I have another 750 CDs arriving…..
Morning Music News Roundup
Foo Fighters & Weezer are co-headlining a US tour – that is going to ROCK!
Rupert Murdoch buys MySpace – According to this MySpace has the fifth highest amount of page views on the enitre web!
In need of sleep.
Ugh. My back still hurts a lot and today, and (along with help from my brother Alex) I packed 500 jiffy bags with CDs I’m sending out. Tomorrow it’s all about address labels and postage labels. Joy.
This is what 500 CDs, in jiffy bags, on a king size double bed looks like. In case you were wondering.

No Scrat rehearsal this week because my back is hurting far to much for me to attempt to play drums (yeah I know I’m going on about it and moaning, sorry!). But we are having a pre-production/planning meeting about the the gig instead, so it’s not all bad.
Release Day!
Imogen Heap’s new album ‘Speak For Yourself’ is out in the UK today! I shall be spending the next few days posting these out to many happy fans:
